I randomly found Mum's one day when I was on a quest to find a tattoo artist that I not only had a respect for but one I could connect with. I had decided that I was ready to get some serious work done and stop getting small little random tattoos. It was important to me to find an artist who had a great eye for detail, creativity, with a fresh twist on style. Not only that but I wanted an artist that I could build a relationship with, someone who offered more than just, "What do you want... This is how much it is..." I went to 8 different shops, not finding any personalities that clicked for me. There were shops with decent artist but no one who went the extra mile to make me feel as if they actually cared what I was getting tattooed on my body. When I was about to call it off for the day I ran into Mum's on the way out of PB. I walked in and instantly liked the decor in the place. It wasn't like an average parlor with posters of pictures and numbers by them. There were no, "Oh I'll take the number 72 on poster B, please." I looked through all of the books there and one grabbed my attention over all of them. Brianna had style, with flavor and had done some very creativity things. I felt good about where her head was at with it. I grabbed her card and called her. When I met B, within 3 mintues I knew she was the one for me. She has been nothing short of amazing. I am in love with all of the work she has done and get comments about it all of the time. People always tell me that I have the most creative and cool tattoos that they have ever seen. That is mainly due to Brianna's eye and skill. She not only works with you on what you want but offers input. She has THE warmest and most friendly personaility out of ANY of the artist that I have ever met. She made me feel right at home and had a sincere care for helping me with what I wanted. With Brianna, you truly get an artist and a friend. I have watched her interact with other customers and they all just seem like friends. It is actually very difficult to tell if the people are customers or people that she knows and hangs out with all of the time. I reeaaaalllly love this shop!!! I had a terrible first tattoo experience and I was so set on never getting another tattoo. I had a friend pass away and I really wanted to memorialize her in some way I had considered a tattoo but was extremely hesitant. I had some friends that recommended me to mums so I popped in just to check it out. I was welcomed by a lovely young lady named steph she really helped point me in the right direction. Jim, one of the owners gave me wonderful advice and I was impressed with the attention that I received. So I made a big decision and went through with it and I love love love the results. 5 Stars! By far the best tattoo experience I've ever had. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. Many of my friends had recommended this shop to me so I called with an unusual idea and some questions, the front desk girl was extremely helpful and guided me in the right direction. When I came in I decided after looking at all the artists portfolios that Shannon was the best artist to fit my needs. Shannon is AMAZING! She is incredibly creative and talented. She has done my entire sleeve and i absolutely love it! Every time I go there I feel right at home and always have fun. And if you spend enough time there like I do you may get lucky enough to meet the infamous Cousin Steve and play a serious game of Scrabble.The shop is clean and professional and the staff treats you like a friend. 5 Stars! On saturday (January 8th 2011) I walked into Mum's looking to get some work done. My first and second tattoo on the same day. I explained what I wanted and 3 different artists helped me design the tattoos that I wanted. It was nothing crazy for them, just some lettering and filigree with my daughters names. They made me feel like they really cared about my tattoo. I wasn't just some guy getting a tattoo. Jim (the owner) ended up doing me a favor and giving me a great price and did the tattoos himself. He was super professional and made my first tattoo experience a great one. Needless to say I got two beautiful tattoos that I get compliments on all the time. Shannon is an amazing artist. I had a very basic tattoo I wanted in memory of my grandma and she made something so basic absolutely perfect. I plan on having a large piece done on my back and Shannon will be the only one getting my business. The shop was clean and the other artists were very nice. Go to Johnny No Toof. Wow, I couldn't believe how fast and efficient he was. He also has a really unique style that definitely caught our eye. His artwork and tattoo work is really something. Usually it's awkward meeting someone and trusting them with your skin. But he didn't have that gloating attitude or rock star ego, that most of the other places seem to have. Mum's tattoo is the best in San Diego, hands down. I went to multiple tattoo shops around San Diego such as 454, Avalon, etc. and left everytime discouraged. I would get a bit of sarcasm and attitude with everyone I talked to. Mum's was on my list because of the good stuff I read and heard about them. So late Friday night I strolled in there and spoke to Stephanie. I didn't bring my design with because I just wanted to check out the place and get the vibe. She was extremely nice, the shop was clean and she told me to come back tomorrow with my designs. I returned the next day and asked for Jim. While all of the artists works are good, I just felt Jim could make my design happen because his work is great, plus he's the owner as well. Jim came from his work station and was cool and friendly from the get go. He stared at my design for a couple of minutes and then said he'll mark something up for me. I was shocked because everywhere else I was told they couldn't do this design on the inside of my bicep. About 45 min later he comes out and showed me the design which looked exactly like I wanted. To top it off he squeezed me in right then and there. Two and a half hours later I was done and the results were better then expected. The guy has mad skills plus sick hair, ha! Everyone was super cool in there. If you want friendly talented people in a super clean shop who follow the state healthy standards then go to Mum's. I will be going back! 5/4/2011 I just have to say that I love Mums' ! I've gotten tattoos done by Jim, Shannon and Johnny no tooth. Each artist listened to my ideas, shared their ideas and expert advice, and took the time to create a custom piece of artwork for me. 5/4/2011 I came to Mums' a couple weeks ago with a general idea of what I wanted, Erik took my idea and drew up and awesome tattoo, free hand! It came out 10 times better than I had first imagined my tattoo would. Erik is a really talented artist and I will definitely be going to him for my next tattoos.  The all over environment is not what you'd expect of a typical tattoo parlor. Wow....this shop blew me away. I have been tattooed at alot of places but Mums' is really impressive in every way. My tattoo is amazing the color is so bright and the detail is off the hook. I can't say enough about this place the staff was so cool and the shop is super clean, and the military discount was nice as well. I will be back for more. Jim you da man!!!!!!!
